The List is Out —These are Top 50 Wines of Fruška Gora

In the early days of September, the 8th Fruška Gora Wine Show at Vila Stanković in Čortanovci once again highlighted the formidable strength of winemaking in the Fruška Gora region. Enthusiasts gathered to taste a carefully curated cross-section of the region’s best wines, with particular attention given to this year’s selection of the “Top 50 Fruška Gora” wines.

Set amidst the outstanding surroundings of Vila Stanković — a venue that never fails to impress with its architecture and harmony with the lush Danubian greenery — and accompanied by exquisite bites, the event reinforced its status as a must-experience. Over the coming year, wines included in this Top 50 list will carry a “Top 50 Fruška Gora” sticker, serving as a guarantee to consumers of their exceptional quality and authentic regional character.

Touring the winery booths again left the impression that the quality of Fruška Gora wines is on an upward trajectory, with stylistic range increasing year after year. The mild early autumn weather in Čortanovci —unusually pleasant for this occasion —invited enjoyment of crisp whites while also providing the ideal backdrop for richer, aged reds to make their presence felt.

Among the highlights:

  • Quet Cuvée Blanc 2023, a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Blanc, delicate and fresh with fruit-driven notes and gentle herbal tones, finishing with surprising richness and length.
  • Grow 2024, an uncommon Grašac, targeted at youthful palates—its elevated sugar content and aromatic wealth make it an excellent gateway into the world of Grašac and wine in general.
  • Đurđić’s sparkling Grašac, lively and fragrant—proof that Grašac adapts well even to this style.
  • Neštinska Winery’s Chardonnay 2023, offering a brilliant balance between freshness and creamy elements.

Sauvignon Blanc 2024 from Frug delighted with its dual character of herbaceousness and tropical fruit — green aromas first, then lush tropical tones — a wine with interesting dynamics. Also first tried at Vila Stanković was Frug Signum Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, part of this year’s Top 50 list: an elegant cabernet, ready to drink, but also promising for ageing.

This event also highlighted the importance of working on indigenous grape varieties. Some of the most promising wines, like the Petit Verdot from Grumen Winery, previously not really well-known, received praise, while experts expect it will make an impact similar to varieties such as Grašac. In this context, it is also important to mention Sila, since wine experts highlighted wineries like Breg that are embracing the variety’s strength.

Each winery in Fruška Gora has its own strong signature. The enormous diversity within the Fruška Gora wine galaxy was once again clearly on display, shaped by the region’s natural gifts and the ambition and passion of those who craft wine there.
